In plain English
Murphy USA is a low-price fuel-and-convenience retailer — 1,757 kiosks and stores across 27 states, most of them on or beside a Walmart lot. It buys refined gasoline wholesale from the big refiners and sells it at razor-thin margins to pull traffic, then makes real money on the tobacco, drinks and snacks inside. Spun out of Murphy Oil in 2013, it has bought back ~63% of its own shares since.
In simple terms
In simple terms
Murphy doesn't refine oil — it buys finished gasoline wholesale from refiners, moves it by pipeline, and sells it cheap at kiosks glued to Walmart parking lots. The low pump price is bait: the money is made when you walk in for cigarettes, a soda and a snack.
